Nice M1850 Foot Officer's Sword which belonged to Lt. Salmon B. Ormsby of the US CT,108th Regt Inf.  Sword is an import S& K Soligen mfr with standard US, floral , Eagle with E Plurbus unum, military modifs with Shield with US & flags, banner with American Eagle, Large US etched on blade with Iron Proof on top of blade. Standard Foot Officer Brass guard with cut out floral designs. Pommel cap has floral with US Shield on front. The original Officer's Sword knot is intact. 100% original ray or sharkskin grip cover & all the three wire wrap is intact. Above the etchings on the blade is etched 108th Regt US on one side & whats left of Ormsby on the other side. Both of these were etched on the blade after officer was in this unit in Louisville, Ky. Ormbys is very light. I'm sure the rest of his name is on the blade but is very light. Sorry no scabbard with the sword. Ormsby enlisted in 1862  & was in Co. K of the 5th Michigan Cavalry & was dicharged in 1864 for disibility. He was commissioned in 1864 in Louisville  into Co. C of the US Color Troop 108th Regt. Infantry. He became Capt in 1865. Ormsby had quite a service in the CW first with Custer at Gettysburg & other battles & then, as an Officer, in charge of CTs in KY chasing Guerrillas. Nice Officer's sword with scarce unit markings.
