Scarce 1/2 plate Ambrotype image of Capt. Amos M. Haslip of Co. A, 27th Iowa Infantry.  The 27th Iowa was in the Western Theatre of the war & were in service in Tn., Ms, La & Mo. They were in battles in all these states & were in larger battles at Pleasant Hill, La., Tupelo & Old Town Creek, Ms, & Nashville, Tn. as well as others. Capt. Haslip commanded & have copies of after battle reports he wrote at battles of Tupelo & Old Town Creek, Ms.  The 27th Iowa ended up in Alabama at the end of the war & Capt. Haslip became sick & died on 7/3/65 in Montgomery Al. This excellent image of Capt. Haslip is in great condition. The plate is a 1/2 plate ruby ambrotype & Capt. Haslip is seating in full uniform wth his Souch Hat & with his Foot Officer's sword. Image is very clear & is gilded on his sword, Bugle on hat, epaulettes, buttons. His left hand is in front of him & covered with a cloth. The matting & covers in great condtion & mkd with Worcester, Mass. The Gutta percha case in great condtion & with nice designs. Under the image on the case is written: Capt. A.M. Haslip Co. A 27th Inf Iowa Vol. Detroit, Mich. Oct 1862 & below is glued into case a newspaper clipping writing about Amos M. Haslip who had just died. This is Capt Haslip's son who was also in the Civil War as a private in the 38th Wisconsin Inf. The article aslo writes: Just 20 years ago Wednesday his father marched out of Waukon as Captain of Co. A, 27th Iowa. I have copies of Capt. Haslip records & history of the unit. A really nice & scarce 1/2 plate Ruby Ambrotype of  Capt Amos M Haslip of the 27th Iowa who served in the Civil War & died of diease at the end.
