Nice group of three 1/6th plate tintypes in cases of three brothers in uniform of the US Army during the Civil War & the hymn book of one of the brothers. The older brother & the image of him holding his musket & what may be a pipe is Pvt. Alexander Jackson of Co. C  NY 48th Infantry. He enlisted 9/9/1861 in Brooklyn, NY & was discharged on 9/20/1864. The 48th NY or "Continental Guard"  consisted of  7 Brooklyn Companies, One NY, one N.J. & one from Brooklyn & Monmouth County. They saw extensive service in Florida, SC, Va., & NC. This unit lost more men than any unit at the Battle of Fort Wagner, SC & again hit hard at the battles of Olustee, Fl. , Drewry's bluff, Va., Cold Harbor, Va & Patersburg, Va. & were in many other battles during the CW. The image is quite clear of Pvt. Alexander & you can still see the 48 on the front of his kepi. There are only two small scratches on the image & not on the image of Alexander. The image is in a nice gutta percha case with floral & strawberries on the front & back. With the image is also Alexander Jackson's Hymn book with "Alexander Jackson 48 Regt Continental Guards" hand written on the first page. The Union Hymn Book  with US flag behind the the patrotic symbols with New York & Evangelic al Alliance, 1861. Book shows a lot of use & has 100 hymns inside. Pages are all good, the cover shows wear. The other two brothers images are also 1/6 plates & both in a wooden case. Both of the brothers are in full uniforms & are both seated. The images were both taken at the same place as the table they are seated at is the same. Both of these soldiers have their full uniforms with jackets, pants & their hats. Both images have tinted faces & buttons have been tinted. Sorry, I don't have the names of the these brothers. It will need some research to find these Jackson brothers names & what unit they were with. You can tell by the faces that all three of these soldiers were brothers. A really nice brother image group with US service hymn book from NY soldiers in the Civil War. Sorry, my camera got into some of the pics with the glass still over the images.
