Inscribed & Presented on this nice M1860 Staff & Field Officer's Sword used by Capt. in the Spanish American War. Standard M1860 S& F Officer's sword with double edged blade with large U.S. , floral, Military flags, shields, etc. on one side of blade & large American Eagle  & shield, military modifs & floral etchings on the other side. Blade is marked with Bent & Bush  Boston, Mass. who were hatters in Boston. Bent & Bush also made cartridge boxes in the Civil War.  Folding couter guard is inscribed "Presented to  Capt. Wm. Fairweather, Company g, 6th Mass. Regt  US vols  by his shopmates  May 13th, 1898". Sword has American Eagle & flags on counterguard & American Shield & military modifs on other counterguard. Pommel has American Eagle shield & floral. Knucklebow has floral engravings. Shark or rayskin cover on grip is all intact as is the twisted wire. Blade has a lot of brightness & has some staining. Metal scabbard has some of the silver still intact on the body  & brass mounts with floral etchings. Capt. Fairweather was Captain of Co. G, 6th Mass. Infantry which went to Cuba & Puerto Rico.  This unit was in fighting at Guanica & also in Puerto Rico. There is a book which is online on the 6th Mass. in the Span Am war & has the history & the roster of the units. A very nice presented M1860 Staff & Field Officer's sword belonging to Capt. Wm. Fairweather of the 6th Mass.
