Confederate, English Mfrd, double barreled Shotgun with agents marked barrel, confederate Gov't property nos. & C.S. on Lock. Shotgun came out of the Wiley Sword collection which was sold by Julia's auction Oct. 12, 1999. Gauge 12 bore on this English standard grade shotgun  with overall length of of 48" with 32" side by side barrels. Good quality shotgun with back action locks & double triggers. Stock is walnut with checkered wrist & patchbox in backstock.  Iron furniture with silvered mounts & iron key. Small silver medallion in on lower backstock. Some engraving on various metal parts.  Early war import shotgun with CS stamped on lockplate. These guns were used extensively by Confederate Cavalry all during the war. Between the barrels on rib is marked with Manufactured for E. P. Tabb & Co. Norfolk, Va.. Both barrels on bottom have Birmingham prooofs, 12 (bore), 1861 & large W.S. which are marked on various British Enfield muskets sent to the south during the war. No. 229 is stamped on butt plate tang, indicating accountability  for CS Gov't property. The shotgun shows wear & has field repairs , including soldering of the barrels from heavy use & has crude washers added to hammer screws to keep them from loosing. Gun was purhased by Wiley Sword in 1960 in North Carolina. This true Confederate shotgun was pictured & has info in the article written by Wiley Sword for The Gun Report magazine in Feb. 1965. I have a copy of this magazine with the article & picture included. Also in 1999 Julia's auction sold Wiley Sword's collection & put out a magazine with his items for sell. This Shotgun with description & info are in the mag & also the picture of the gun. A rare example of an authentic imported Confederate shotgun with markings.
